WHO'S THAT BOY

冷たい雨の都会(まち)は 金属(メタル)の月の砂漠
光線(ひかり)図形(パズル)組んで 抱きしめ合う夜ね
路地裏走る電光(ネオン) 誘惑(ひか)れて踊る愛情(こころ)
きっと綺麗なのは 誰かが傷いたから

★It's Wonder Nightmare
You Come Over Night
すべては幻覚(まぼろし)
I Can't Say WHO'S THAT BOY?
聞いてはいけない約束 だけど
WHO'S THAT BOY?
おんなじ都会(まち)迷子(はぐ)れた
You Can't Say WHO'S THAT BOY?
何処から来たの 何処までゆくの
WHO'S THAT BOY?

誰もが自分だけを 愛する狂った都会
乱反射(プリズム)瞬間(とき)の嵐 希望(ゆめ)を殺して過ぎる

It's Wonder Nightmare
You Come Over Tonight
すべては偶然ね
I Can't Say WHO'S THAT BOY?
夜空の色の不思議な瞳
WHO'S THAT BOY?
(ここ)えた都会(まち)を見降ろす
You Can't Say WHO'S THAT BOY?
(そび)えるビルは夢の墓標ね
WHO'S THAT BOY?

The city in the freezing rain is a metallic moon desert
The rays of light link together like a puzzle and embrace in the night
The neon light flashing in the back alleys tempt my dancing heart
For sure, its beautiful because someone gets hurt

★It's Wonder Nightmare
You Come Over Night
Everything's an illusion, isn't it?
I Can't Say WHO'S THAT BOY?
I shouldn't listen to the promises, but...
WHO'S THAT BOY?
I got myself lost in the same city
You Can't Say WHO'S THAT BOY?
Where did he come from? Where is he going?
WHO'S THAT BOY?

A crazy city where people only love themselves
A storm of prismatic time kills our hopeful dreams

It's Wonder Nightmare
You Come Over Night
How sudden everything is
I Can't Say WHO'S THAT BOY?
His strange eyes the colour of the night sky
WHO'S THAT BOY?
Looking down disdainfully at the frozen city13
You Can't Say WHO'S THAT BOY?
The towering buildings are the gravestones for our dreams
WHO'S THAT BOY?

Footnotes

1 sung as machi, "town" (spelled 町), but written with the word for "city", tokai, on the lyrics sheet. Machi is very, very commonly used in everyday Japanese language to refer to anything from a large town to a literal city, so the kanji appears to be used to impress that they're referring specifically to a city in this song (Tokyo, naturally).

2 sung as metaru, "metal", but written with the word for, uh, "metal", kinzoku. As this is a pretty much on the dot translation, I'm thinking maybe Ookawa-sensei just chose the kanji in the lyrics for aesthetic purposes -- this isn't unheard of.

3 sung as hikari, "light", but written with the word for "beam of light, ray", kousen. Just defining the form of light in question.

4 sung as pazuru, "puzzle", but written with the word for "figure", zukei. This one's a little cryptic, but I think it's giving the image of a puzzle/riddle presented as a single object, figure, or picture.

5 sung as neon, "neon", but written with the word for "lightning", denkou -- both kanji in the word literally mean "electricity" and "light", respectively, so it's making the definition between the lighting style and the element.

6 sung as hikarete (spelled 引かれて), "charmed", but written with the word for "tempted", yuuwakurete. Implying while this seduction is certainly charming, it's also rather dangerous.

7 sung as kokoro, "heart" or "mind" (or the blurry area where both combine), but written with the word for "love, affection", aijou. YMMV, but to me, this swings the meaning of kokoro more towards heart, thus an emotional state, rather than mind, a more intellectual or thoughtful one.

8 sung as maboroshi, "phantom, vision, dream", but written with the word for "hallucination, illusion", genkaku. Skewing the meaning towards something being a vision, but not necessarily a healthy or benign one.

9 sung as hagureta "averted, turned away from" (spelled 逸れた), but written with the kanji for "stray/lost child", maigo. I say "kanji" here and not "word" because, technically, there's no such word as maigoreta; maigo is a noun while hagure(ta) is a verb. Overall it gives a vibe of choosing to become lost.

10 sung as purizmu, "prism", but written with the word for "diffuse reflection", ranhansha. YMMV, but to me it's giving imagery of light scattered through a prism.

11 sung as toki, "time", but written with the word for "moment or instant", shunkan. When they say time, they mean a very short amount thereof.

12 sung as yume, "dream", but written with the word for "hope or wish", kibou. Wishful dreaming, anyone?

13 mi orosu can have two meanings, both using the same kanji: "to overlook, to command a view of, to look down upon" (as in, geographically), and "to look down upon, to despise". I combined both meanings in my translation here.
